Kick-off Workshop on the Development of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Guidelines for Solar Projects in Bangladesh

On 3 February 2026, the Virtual Kick-off Workshop on the Development of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Guidelines for Solar Projects in Bangladesh took place, jointly organized by GIZ Bangladesh Energy Cluster, SREDA, and the Power Division, MPEMR, under the Green Energy Transition – Policy Advisory Partnership (GET-PAP) project.
With over 80 participants from government institutions, the private sector, utilities, development partners, financial institutions, industry associations, and academia, the workshop marked a significant step toward strengthening the long-term performance and reliability of Bangladesh’s rapidly expanding solar sector. BSREA is proud to be one of the project partners in this important national process.
Mr Muzaffar Ahmed, Chairman (Grade-1), Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Mr Muhammad Khalequzzaman, Joint Secretary, Energy Efficiency & Conservation Branch, Power Division, MPEMR, chaired the event. Mr Edwin Koekkoek, Team Leader, Green Inclusive Development Section, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, also attended the event. Mr Mostafa Al Mahmud, President, BSREA, was present as a project partner.
The Chief Guest Mr Muzaffar Ahmed, stated, “As Bangladesh rapidly scales up grid-connected rooftop, hybrid, and utility-scale solar projects, the focus is shifting from installation to long-term sustainability through energy efficiency and renewable energy development.”
Mr Muhammad Khalequzzaman, emphasized, “The development of national O&M guidelines is timely and essential to standardize best practices and protect long-term investments in the solar sector.”
Mr Edwin Koekkoek, said, “These workshops are not only about producing guidelines, but also about knowledge exchange and strengthening connections between European and Bangladeshi companies.”
Mr Mostafa Al Mahmud, President, BSREA, highlighted Bangladesh’s remarkable solar journey — “Bangladesh has emerged as a global leader in solar energy, with over six million solar home systems installed and ambitious renewable energy targets for 2030 and 2040.”
The workshop provided a clear overview of the guideline development framework, stakeholder roles, and the collaborative approach required to ensure that solar projects across Bangladesh deliver safe, efficient, and reliable performance throughout their lifecycle.
