A delegation from the Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) paid a courtesy visit to Anindya Islam Amit, Honorable State Minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
During the meeting, BSREA representatives exchanged views on the expansion of renewable energy, sustainable power development, and the future potential of Bangladesh’s clean energy sector. The delegation also presented several key issues and recommendations aimed at accelerating the country’s renewable energy transition.
Key issues and recommendations included:
Rooftop Solar Expansion: Unlocking 3,000–4,000 MW potential from industrial, commercial, and residential rooftops through supportive policies and financing.
Utility-Scale Solar and Wind Projects: Identifying non-agricultural government land and allocating projects through transparent competitive bidding to reduce electricity generation costs.
Review of Pending Renewable Projects: Conducting transparent reviews of previously approved LOIs and fast-tracking projects without irregularities to quickly add clean electricity to the national grid.
Solar Irrigation Expansion: Gradually replacing diesel-powered irrigation pumps with solar systems to reduce diesel imports and save foreign exchange.
River-Based Solar Development: Exploring solar installations on major rivers such as the Jamuna, integrating renewable energy development with river management, fisheries, and navigation.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Encouraging deployment of energy storage to support grid stability and renewable energy integration.
Investment-Friendly Policy Environment: Ensuring bankable Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and Implementation Agreements (IA) to attract international investors.
Strengthening Institutional Capacity: Enhancing the role of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) to accelerate renewable energy policy implementation and market development.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Integration: Promoting EV adoption and solar-powered charging infrastructure to reduce fossil fuel dependence.
Supportive Fiscal Measures: Recommending tax and duty reductions, concessional financing, and expansion of net metering to encourage renewable energy investment.
BSREA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the government and stakeholders to advance a clean, secure, and sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.
