BSREA Calls for Urgent Renewable Energy Transition Amid Deepening Energy Crisis

The Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) held a press conference on 13 April at the National Press Club, Dhaka, calling for urgent action to address the country’s deepening energy crisis.

BSREA highlighted that Bangladesh’s heavy reliance on imported fuels has increased economic pressure, driven up energy costs, and created supply shortages affecting industries and overall economic stability.

To ensure long-term energy security, BSREA emphasized the need to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, particularly solar power. However, the sector continues to face policy and financial barriers, including high import duties and limited investment support.

BSREA urged the government to take immediate steps, including reducing taxes on renewable energy equipment, facilitating low-cost financing, simplifying net metering policies, and fast-tracking renewable energy projects.

The association stressed that the current crisis presents a critical opportunity for Bangladesh to shift towards a more sustainable, resilient, and self-reliant energy future.
