Renewable Energy for Energy Security: Time for Budgetary Policy Reform

Ensuring Bangladesh’s energy security requires a decisive shift toward renewable energy and stronger policy support in the national budget.

At a recent press conference titled “Renewable Energy for Energy Security: Time for Budgetary Policy Reform,” environmental advocates, energy experts, civil society representatives, and sector stakeholders called for a more supportive fiscal and regulatory framework to accelerate renewable energy adoption in Bangladesh.

Representing BSREA, President Mostafa Al Mahmud highlighted the importance of policy consistency, tax reforms, affordable financing, and long-term planning to unlock the full potential of the renewable energy sector.

Despite Bangladesh’s significant solar and wind energy potential, high taxes and financial barriers continue to limit growth and investment. Creating a more enabling environment for renewable energy can strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, ease pressure on foreign currency reserves, generate employment, and support sustainable economic development.

BSREA remains committed to advocating for practical policies and collaborative actions that will help accelerate Bangladesh’s clean energy transition.
